B1 - Intermediate

Communicate independently and confidently in Greek.

A comprehensive intermediate course aligned with CEFR B1 and the proficiency descriptors of the Centre for the Greek Language (CGL).

 

What you will learn at B1

At B1, learners become independent users of Greek and gain the confidence to handle most everyday situations without relying heavily on support from others.

The course focuses on developing fluency, improving communication skills, and helping learners express opinions, experiences, plans, and personal stories with greater clarity and confidence. Learners gradually move from basic exchanges to more meaningful conversations and real-life interactions.

According to CEFR & ΚΕΓ, by the end of B1 learners can:

  • understand the main points of clear standard speech
  • deal with most situations that arise while travelling or living in Greece
  • produce simple connected texts on familiar topics
  • describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions
  • explain opinions and plans in a simple but clear way.

Language skills

The course develops all four language skills through authentic materials, practical communication tasks, and real-life scenarios that reflect situations learners encounter in everyday life.

Listening

Students can understand:

  • the main ideas of everyday conversations

  • radio/TV content when the topic is familiar

  • instructions, announcements, and explanations

  • conversations about work, studies, travel, and social life

Speaking

Students can:

  • participate in conversations on familiar topics

  • express opinions, preferences, and feelings

  • describe experiences and events in detail

  • handle most situations while travelling or living in Greece

  • give short explanations and reasons

Reading

Students can understand:

  • longer texts and articles on familiar subjects

  • personal letters and emails describing events and feelings

  • simple informational texts (websites, brochures, guides)

Writing

Students can:

  • write connected paragraphs

  • describe experiences, impressions, and plans

  • write emails, messages, and short texts expressing opinions

Core Language Structures

  • Revision and consolidation of A1–A2 grammar
  • Past tenses in depth: Aorist, Imperfect, Present Perfect
  • Future tenses: simple and continuous
  • Subjunctive structures (να + verb)
  • Modal expressions (μπορεί να…, πρέπει να…, θέλω να…)
  • Object pronouns (direct and indirect)
  • Relative clauses (που)
  • Introduction to passive voice
  • Adverbs and adjectives (comparison and intensification)
  • Sentence connectors (επειδή, όμως, παρόλο που, όταν, πριν, αφού).
