Academic Background
Academic background and professional teaching experience
I am a native Greek speaker based in Athens and a certified tutor of Greek as a second/foreign language.
I hold a BA in Greek Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an MA in Teaching Greek as a Second/Foreign Language from the University of Nicosia (with distinction), and a Master’s degree in Creative Writing.
I have over six years of experience teaching Modern Greek to adult learners from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
My professional experience includes working as Head of Education in an NGO for 3.5 years, where I taught Greek to refugees and migrants and contributed to European Erasmus+ educational programmes focused on language learning, integration, and adult education. I have also participated in teacher training programmes at the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus and contributed to the development of Greek language teaching materials for both adults and teenagers.
My teaching approach is structured and communicative. Lessons combine real-life language use from the very beginning with clear grammar support and carefully selected authentic materials.
I specialize in guiding adult learners from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2), helping them develop confidence in speaking, understanding, and using Greek in real-life contexts.
Teaching Philosophy
How I approach teaching Greek to adult learners.
My teaching philosophy is shaped by years of working with adult learners in diverse and often challenging learning environments, including NGOs, international programmes, and multicultural classrooms.
I believe that language learning is most effective when it is structured, consistent, and rooted in real communication. Learners do not progress through memorisation alone, but through repeated, meaningful exposure to the language in context.
For this reason, my lessons are carefully designed to balance clarity and structure with flexibility. Grammar is introduced in a way that supports communication, not as an isolated system. Authentic materials such as dialogues, videos, and everyday situations are used from the very beginning to build both understanding and confidence.
Having worked with learners from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, I adapt my teaching to individual needs while maintaining a clear learning path. My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and able to progress steadily at their own pace.
