A structured introduction to the Greek language, aligned with CEFR A1 and the proficiency descriptors of the Centre for the Greek Language (CGL).
What you will learn at A1
A1 is designed for complete beginners and provides a clear, supportive introduction to the Greek language.
The course focuses on building confidence step by step through practical communication and meaningful everyday situations. Learners develop the foundations they need to understand and use basic Greek while gradually becoming more comfortable interacting with Greek speakers.
According to CEFR & ΚΕΓ, by the end of A1 students can:
- understand very basic phrases related to personal information
- use simple structures to introduce themselves and ask and answer basic questions
- describe simple aspects of their daily life
- write short, simple messages
- participate in basic dialogues when the other person speaks slowly and clearly.
Language skills
The course develops all four language skills through guided practice, interactive activities, and real-life situations that help learners use Greek from the very beginning.
Listening
Students can understand:
simple instructions
basic information about people, places, and objects
slow, clear speech on familiar everyday topics
Speaking
Students can:
introduce themselves and others
ask and answer simple questions
give basic personal information (name, age, country, job)
request and give very simple information
Reading
Students can understand:
short texts
simple notices and announcements
basic messages and descriptions
Writing
Students can:
write short, simple sentences
fill in basic forms
write simple messages (e.g., a 2–3 sentence email)
